First determine the number of players/teams in a group. A group is all of the players or teams who complete directly against each other by playing the exact same hands. For instance, in the typical 3 table movement, all 3 NS teams compete against each other and all 3 EW teams compete against each other. Therefore a group for this movement consists of 3 teams. The following table gives the number of master points that would be awarded in a sanctioned game for groups of size 3 through 8.

The actual formula for computing these numbers is shown below.

1st  = # in group x .08
2nd = .7 x 1st
3rd = .5 x 1st
4th = .35 x 1st
5th = .2 x 1st
6th = 1/6 x 1st
Awards go to the top 40% in the group with .5 rounded up.
In the case of a tie, give each the average of the 2 positions.
